Q & A for LOTL interview–Australia’s leading lesbian magazine-

~May, 2006
-I took a look at your site and it great - what inspired you to start the CandyCoated Girls website? How did you come up with the name?

*I have always been interested in girl/girl erotica. Every time I cruised the "adult" sites, they were usually made up of fake plastic L.A. style porn directed by men. I did not feel excited about the photos and could not engage myself in this imagery. The other style I found seemed to be dedicated to the more dyke style lesbian porn...which I have no problem with... but wasn't quite girly enough for my own taste. I wanted a mix and something designed by a girl with girls' tastes in mind. I wanted it more *candy coated*.

-What makes this site different than let's say the suicide girls?

*The suicide girls definitely stood out from the typical L.A. plastic porn genre but the models I saw when they first started seemed a little masculine and it appeared as if all of them had to be covered in piercing and tattoos to be on the site. Since then, they seem to have grown and diversified in their models (many of which I have huge crushes on!), however I know they require their models to sign exclusive contracts with them. Also, the models simply submit sets and they get on the site. I model with each girl on all my sets. You could say that candycoatedgirls is a playground for candy. It represents a part of me, and each set is partially directed and produced by me. The girls I work with are picked by me. If I was to go into a bar and take a girl home...dress her up...and have my way with her, this is what is shown on the site.

-How is it different than main stream "la style lesbian" style porn??

*To begin with, it's completely designed, developed, and put together by me, Candy. I'm a bisexual girl with a wild imagination and a craving for the punky girl next door. Not all my shoots are "hard core" while others can get pretty erotic. They aren't "staged" per se, but if it's going to get steamy, it's because we are getting hot on set, not because I arranged for us to "make each other cum" in some script. If I work with a girl once and there isn't chemistry, she probably won't be on the site too much longer. I don't make this for men but I know many enjoy it and are welcome to peruse candy's playground.

-Are you trying to teach or inspire something to the viewer of the the CandyCoated Girls site?

*I'm trying to do what I love and make art of it. I've been a graphic artist, photographer, media artist, and girl lover for years. I'm just trying to put a genre that doesn't get enough attention out there for the world.

-What would you say to queer friendly women who might be against this kind of woman centered porn?

*The problem I've noticed in the queer environment has been especially directed towards bisexual women. While it may not be directly talked about in the community, I have personal experience of feeling like an outsider because of my own sexual orientation. I am not bi because I want to turn a boyfriend on, I am not bi because society finds it hot. In fact, I have found it VERY difficult to meet and date lesbian women because of that title. I used to just call myself a lesbian because I am with many more women sexually and wanted to be accepted by the lesbian community. I'd like to finally take a stand for my own sexuality and have an outlet for other women to do the same.
*My site is for anyone who accepts the sensuality and sexuality of women; plain and simple. If someone is ashamed of sexuality, should they be ashamed to view it on the internet? Should they be ashamed to see their partner masturbating in front of them? Afraid to get naked and take a shower? I think many people who object to this type of art are not realizing the message that is trying to get across. I am embracing my sexuality and trying to stand tall in a world filled with those who do not accept sexuality as a normal human action. I am display these feelings and real passions through my art.

-What's next for you and your website?

*I will be adding live webcams for all my candycoatedgirls so we will be streaming live all the time. Eventually I'd like to turn it into candycoatedgirls tv on the web and have continuous programming and live events as well.
*I'm also in the process of starting a traveling burlesque dance troup of candycoatedgirls. This will come with the success of the site in the future. I have many plans and many more ideas so stay tuned!
The CandyCoated Statement
-----------------------------

The CandyCoated Girls are meant to stand tall in a society filled with main stream L.A. produced plastic porn. CandyCoatedGirls is considered a sex positive girl/girl indie, pin-up, anime style with punk rock, bisexuals, lesbians, and real girls. The girls on this site actually ENJOY what they are doing. They are on here because they like the style, the girls, and making out w/ other cute girls in a setting that is unique to this scene. What you see is real.

CandyCoatedGirls is a local outlet for the Seattle scene girl/girl community. While many men also enjoy the beauty of two hot girls being real, the site is designed with the girl in mind. It is designed and developed by Candy herself so each girl is hand picked with her and many other girls’ tastes in mind.

Because most of society has lumped “porn” into one category, CandyCoatedGirls tries to separate from that genre. This site is intended to show sex positive, playful, girl/girl passion while using local Seattle girls with character, flare and emphasizing their style. Many of the shoots tend to have a hint of Candy’s own unique quirkiness. Watch out for the obsessive pink and candy coatedness that is painted in each and every shoot and wardrobe.

John Ince wrote a book called ‘The Politics of Lust’ which gives great incite into the problems of combining everything “adult” related into a negative demeanor. Candy would like to apply this quote to the model of her own site:

Friendly porn is educational. Aside from teaching about sexual styles and techniques, friendly porn conveys a very powerful message about the legitimacy of human sexuality. Friendly porn is an advertisement for lust and pleasure. The open circulation of such material teaches that sex is inherently good and normal. Porn depicting happy people is powerfully counter-phobigenic, helping defuse lust delusions.
